Photo Essay: Four Years of Soul Fly Lodge

The Soul Fly Lodge team, with help from this assortment of exceptional photographers, is proud to present a collection of images that span the first four years of our work and play together. Just as an angler evolves with every trip taken, Soul Fly Lodge and our team continue to be shaped by the tides, the whims of the Bahamian breeze, and the nuances of each interaction with our guests, friends, family, and the Great Harbour Cay community.

We are a culmination of these experiences, both the rewarding and the challenging. Each moment teaches us to flow with the rhythm of The Bahamas, take good care of each other, and pursue a true and real experience that we can pass along to our guests. Anglers come to Soul Fly Lodge seeking something, and more than anything, we hope that they feel the depth of care and passion that we put into our work. We’re in constant pursuit of the perfect experience—an impossible goal to reach—but a noble one, that guides each day’s intention.

For now and forever, we wish you well-timed casts, patient moments on the bow, a curious spirit, and a deepened connection to The Bahamas, its fish and, most importantly, its people who steward the former.

On Great Harbour Cay, seemingly-endless flats of translucent, aquamarine water await keen bonefish anglers.

Mangrove-lined bays and flats provide exceptional cover, and feeding grounds for bonefish. Keeping a strong bonefish from wrapping your line around a mangrove is indeed cause for celebration.

Fishing on foot immerses anglers in the flats, and provides a variety of challenging angling scenarios to test skills against.

Whether on the hunt, on the move, or hooked up, the Soul Fly fishing experience is filled with friendly faces to share the moment.

A few of the faces you’re likely to find while at Soul Fly Lodge: legendary Bahamas guides Percy Darville and Travis Sands; lodge partner Griz; and maybe even the mighty mutton snapper!

Bonefish—the ghost of the flats—never cease to amaze with their unique beauty. The chance to hold and release one is why we fish so hard.

The flow of day of bonefishing at Soul Fly Lodge follows the tides and the sun, so don’t forget your sun hoodies!

Permit, permit, and more permit! We are extremely fortunate to have an incredible permit fishery at our fingertips. And we’re crazy for it!

We’re well-suited for fishing couples, and anglers of all experience levels. Fishing on foot is a great way to hone casts and learn bonefish behavior.

Over the course of a day on the water, anglers will move from spot to spot based on conditions, fishing from flats skiffs and on foot, with time for stories and jokes in between.

An aerial view of Little Harbour Cay shows the complexity and coloration of the flats. Despite the exceptional water clarity, these bonefish can still be, undeniably, hard to spot.

A few of the critters you’re likely to see at Soul Fly Lodge: lemon sharks, tiger sharks, osprey, sea turtles and, of course, bonefish.

Variety of water type is a certain spice of Soul Fly. Guests will fish classic light-sand flats, turtlegrass-covered flats, the edges of rocky shorelines and mangrove islands, and more.

It’s easy to keep eyes affixed on what’s within casting distance, but there’s natural beauty in all directions in The Bahamas.

The Soul Fly experience is much more than fishing. Upon returning home, memories of the before-fishing and breaks-from-fishing will remain—often as prominently as the during-fishing moments.

Did we mention the food and drink?? Rest assured that you won’t go hungry or dry while at Soul Fly. Enjoy our own kitchen and bar, and a trip to Flo’s Conch Shack is a must.

Chef Valentino’s creations will water your mouth, and have you scratching your head on how such elaborate dinners can be made on a tiny island in the middle of the ocean.

You’ll rest easy at Soul Fly Lodge too. Clean, comfortable rooms await, and the beach is a short stroll away, offering a refreshing swim or some solitude, when desired.

On-site, there’s a freshwater pool, covered deck, and a casting deck with targets for practicing presentations in between fishing sessions. We launch every day from the island’s marina.

The lodge offers ample space and plenty of room for socializing or quiet, whichever guests are feeling at the time.

It’s hard not to smile while posted up at The Carriearl Roost—our self-serve bar, where daily appetizers (and stories!) are shared.

Community is as much of our approach to hospitality as fly fishing. Our team members are not only colleagues, but they’re friends and challenge one another to improve their angling game.

Our connection to Great Harbour Cay runs from the flats to the ecosystem as a whole, and includes the people as well. As much as anything, we’re proud to be a part of the vibrant community on the island.
