Activities on Great Harbour Cay

Great Harbour Cay (GHC) is anything but a one-trick pony. The island is vibrant yet quiet, remote but accessible. The allure of GHC has drawn visitors in for decades and with good reason. The bonefishing is some of the best in the Bahamas. Permit roam the white sand flats and provide anglers with the ultimate challenge on the fly. Beautiful beaches, golf, diving, snorkeling, offshore fishing, lunch at Flo’s, exploring the caves and plunging into a blue hole all deserve to be on the hit list for your trip to GHC. Reach out to your hosts at Soul Fly Lodge to arrange any combination of the following adventures.

  • Sugar Beach & Caves:

Aptly named because of the perfectly fine, white sands that surround the island. Sugar Beach and it’s unique caves are the perfect place to explore with a picnic.

  • Lunch at Flo’s:

Nestled into the westside of Little Harbour Cay lies a special establishment that has been in operation for over 3 decades. Chester Darville took this landmark restaurant over from his mother, continuing a Berry Island tradition. People come from near and far to experience Flo’s amazing cracked conch, fish fingers, peas & rice, coleslaw and, of course, delicious rum punch. Only accessible by boat.

  • Golf:

Great Harbour Cay was once home to a championship 18 hole golf course, designed by Joe Lee. GHC has gone through a lot of changes since the original course was built in the 1960’s. A 9 hole course is still maintained on the island giving residents and visitors the opportunity to unwind on the links.

  • Diving & Snorkeling:

The diving and snorkeling in the Bahamas is world class. The reefs are plentiful with biodiversity that’s only observed in rich, well-protected environments. Sharks, snapper, grouper, assorted coral, starfish, barracudas, hogfish, lobsters, rays, and many other critters are on the list for potential encounters in the waters surrounding Great Harbour Cay.

  • Offshore & Deep Drop Fishing:

The Berry Islands boast some of the best offshore fishing in the Bahamas. With the “tongue of the ocean” to the south and rich surrounding waters, the opportunities for encounters with big game, blue-water fish are real. Marlin, Wahoo, Mahi-Mahi, Tuna, and Sailfish are plentiful at certain times of the year. Deep Drop fishing gives access to assorted snapper and group species.

  • Hoffman’s Cay Blue Hole:

The blue hole is located on Hoffman’s Cay and can be reached by a short boat ride south from GHC. The blue hole itself is about 600 feet wide. A 20 foot cliff beckons visitors to embrace an adrenaline filled plunge into the dark waters below. It’s said that only oysters inhabit the blue hole.

Hoffmann's Cay is the most visited blue hole in these islands. It is accessed via a horseshoe-shaped beach, just behind a patch of Australian Pine trees at the shoreline.

  • Shelling at Shark Creek // Top 25 Beaches in the World:

The southeast side of GHC is home to a small estuary, Shark Creek, and beautiful oceanside flats. The shallow water is a wonderful place to play and look for shells and sand dollars. This is also a worthwhile spot to bring your fly rod and do a little DIY fly fishing on your own.
